It's a boy
A short sweet update
I’m having a boy! A low-risk boy. All his chromosomes are as they should be (i.e. no Downs, nor the less-common chromosomal abnormalities - I opted not to do the more extensive testing). Two weeks ago I got to see him on the ultrasound, sliding back and forth in my uterus, kicking his tiny little legs. There were moments when we could see his fingers and nose, but he was moving too fast.
This week (14w1d today) he’s probably between 3.5 and 4 inches. As he’s getting longer, the days are getting shorter, but the earth still provides: I thought the Maypops in my backyard were in too shady a spot for them to get ripe, but in the last week I’ve reaped about a dozen, most of which have been fucking scrumptious. To the extent that I’ve had cravings, I’ve craved sour, and these hit the spot. They’re just like passionfruit but they’re native to Virginia. The flowers bloom in mid-summer and they are beautiful.
That’s all I have today. I’m a bit sick, and still generally low-energy. When I have energy for writing I’m writing work and work-adjacent stuff. Life is good.

Eeeeeep! So much joy! And I love your savouring of the little moments, like the maypops and the waxings ❤️
